Established in 1975, Civil Hospital, Aizawal has been at the forefront of healthcare delivery in Mizoram, serving the community with dedication and excellence. As the largest government hospital in the state, we have grown from a 50-bed facility to a 300-bed multispecialty institution recognized for clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Emergency & Trauma Care

24/7 emergency services with a dedicated trauma team, resuscitation bays, and rapid response protocols. Our emergency department handles everything from minor injuries to critical life-threatening conditions with an average response time of under 8 minutes.

Fully equipped with defibrillators, ventilators, portable ultrasound, and a dedicated trauma operating theater. We maintain a stock of emergency medications and blood products for immediate use.

Cardiology & Cardiac Care

Comprehensive cardiac services including non-invasive cardiology, echocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitoring, and cardiac ICU. Our team manages acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, heart failure, and hypertensive emergencies.

Equipped with a modern cardiac catheterization laboratory for angiograms and interventions. We collaborate with national cardiac centers for complex cases requiring advanced surgical interventions.

Pediatrics & Neonatology

Specialized care for children from birth through adolescence. Our pediatric department includes a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with incubators, warmers, phototherapy units, and ventilator support for premature and sick newborns.

Comprehensive vaccination program, growth monitoring, nutritional counseling, and management of childhood illnesses. We have a child-friendly environment with trained pediatric nurses and play therapists.

Diagnostic Imaging

Advanced imaging services including 128-slice CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI, digital X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy. All imaging is interpreted by certified radiologists with subspecialty training.

PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for digital storage and retrieval of images. We provide emergency imaging services 24/7 with reporting within 2 hours for critical cases.

Pathology Laboratory

Fully automated laboratory performing over 500 types of tests including clinical pathology, biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, and histopathology. NABL accredited with quality control protocols.

Rapid testing available for emergency cases with STAT turnaround times. We participate in external quality assurance programs to maintain accuracy and reliability of results.

Neurology & Neurosurgery

Management of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and neuropathies. We have a dedicated stroke unit with thrombolysis capability.

Neurosurgical services for brain tumors, head injuries, spinal disorders, and peripheral nerve surgeries. Equipped with modern neurosurgical microscope, neuro-navigation system, and dedicated neuro-ICU.

Hospital Departments

Department of General Surgery

Our surgical department performs over 5,000 procedures annually across various specialties including gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, endocrine, colorectal, and minimally invasive surgeries. We have six modern operation theaters equipped with laparoscopic systems, C-arm for intraoperative imaging, and advanced anesthesia workstations.

The department is staffed by 15 consultant surgeons with subspecialty training in different areas. We follow enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols to minimize hospital stay and complications. Our surgical ICU provides postoperative care for complex cases.

Specialized services include: laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair (open and laparoscopic), appendectomy, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, breast surgery, gastrointestinal cancer surgeries, and emergency trauma surgeries. We have a dedicated day care surgery unit for minor procedures.

Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Comprehensive women's health services including antenatal care, high-risk pregnancy management, labor and delivery, gynecological surgeries, and family planning. We handle over 3,500 deliveries annually with a cesarean section rate of 25%.

Our labor suite has 12 delivery beds, two operation theaters for emergency cesarean sections, and a dedicated fetal monitoring system. We offer painless labor (epidural analgesia) services and have a Level II neonatal unit for immediate newborn care.

Gynecological services include management of menstrual disorders, fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, and gynecological cancers. We perform hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and open gynecological surgeries. The department also runs a menopause clinic and adolescent gynecology service.

Department of Orthopedics

Management of musculoskeletal disorders including fractures, joint diseases, sports injuries, spinal disorders, and bone tumors. We have a dedicated trauma team that manages orthopedic emergencies 24/7.

Our services include joint replacement surgery (hip and knee), arthroscopic surgery, fracture fixation with plates and intramedullary nails, spinal surgery for disc diseases and deformities, and hand surgery. We have a modern physiotherapy department for rehabilitation.

The department is equipped with C-arm fluoroscopy, arthroscopy system, orthopedic power tools, and traction devices. We follow evidence-based protocols for conditions like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Our fracture clinic handles follow-up of orthopedic trauma cases.

Department of Internal Medicine

Comprehensive management of adult medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney diseases, infectious diseases, and rheumatological conditions. We have 80 beds dedicated to medical patients.

Subspecialty clinics include diabetes clinic (with HbA1c monitoring and diabetic foot care), hypertension clinic, asthma and COPD clinic, geriatric clinic, and travel medicine clinic. We manage complex multisystem disorders and provide pre-operative medical clearance.

Our intensive care unit (ICU) has 12 beds with ventilators, multipara monitors, infusion pumps, and dialysis capability. We follow antibiotic stewardship program and infection control protocols. The department participates in clinical research and drug trials for new therapies.

New MRI Machine Installation Completed

June 15, 2023

Civil Hospital has successfully installed a new 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, enhancing diagnostic capabilities for neurological, musculoskeletal, and abdominal disorders. The machine features advanced software for cardiac and breast imaging.

The new MRI operates 16 hours daily and has reduced waiting time from 3 weeks to 5 days. It is the first MRI in Mizoram with diffusion-weighted imaging for early stroke detection.

NABH Reaccreditation Awarded

April 28, 2023

The hospital has successfully achieved reaccreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) for another 3 years. The surveyors commended our infection control practices and patient safety protocols.

This recognition places Civil Hospital among the top 15% of hospitals in India for quality standards. The accreditation process involved rigorous evaluation of 600 parameters over 5 days.

Free Diabetes Screening Camp Results

March 10, 2023

Our month-long diabetes screening camp tested 2,450 individuals across Aizawl district. 18% were newly diagnosed with diabetes, and 32% were prediabetic. All received counseling and referral for further management.

The camp highlighted the growing burden of diabetes in Mizoram. We have now established a weekly diabetes clinic with dedicated educators and dietitians to address this public health challenge.
